See 2 Nephi 5:21 for source of people with black colored skin being cursed.

Your analogy is not valid. Light refraction is a measurable, provable physical phenomenon. If you witnessed a sunset and described it to someone who has never seen one, you could still prove your observation to the blind man with scientific measurements.

Anonymous those studies are at least 100yrs old. For the past 30yrs through DNA testing Anthropologists have said that there is no difference between races, only what we see on the outside. This reasoning is why there have been so many genocides in the past 70 yrs. People create differences between each other because we can't comprehend beyond what we can see. This is why Jesus refed to humans as sheep without a shepard. Sheep are some of the dumbest animals ever and without a shepard they are completely lost.

noletters, I agree and I also stated in my answer that religions are divisive. That's why I'm on -8, lol!

noletters, are you actually trying to say scientists beleive there is no difference of people of differing races other than skin color?? Seriously?

pacella23, 2 Nephi 5:21 mentions that a particular people were cursed with black skin; it doesn’t say that all people with black (or even dark) skin are cursed, just that this *particular* people was.

Because someone went and tried to pull the race card here, and tried to claim Mormons are ashamed, when they have no reason to be, as we are and have always been the most racially tolerant church on the planet. Those who claim Africans were not allowed to join the church are just flat-out wrong.

Africans and Native Americans have never been denied the privilege of joining the church. It is true that many of African decent were not allowed to receive the priesthood, do to the curse of Cain, but they were never not allowed to join the church, and were even allowed to attend the same church as white Mormons. The LDS church was well ahead of the times as far as segregation goes. I know a number of black Mormons that would be so offended by people pulling the race card like that, it's completely ridiculous.

Since this has been bumped, please allow me to correct myself: after a more careful reading of 2 Nephi 5:21, I have come to recognize that the dark skin was not the curse itself; it was simply a distinguishing characteristic given to a people, that the righteous might not intermarry with the unrighteous. By the first chapter of Jacob, the Nephites are already being chastised for viewing their dark-skinned brethren as inferior.
I won’t go into more detail here (since I’ve already posted this in several other threads), but suffice to say that I am still learning, and I hope that everyone else is, as well. :-)

I bumped all the answers here so that everyone, hopefully, that has viewed this question would come back and read the truth. It's probably a dream to hope they'll all come back, but if one person comes back and educates themselves because of my comments it'll be worth it.
