Digital TV, indoor antenna, old apartment house with concrete fire board walls with metal mesh in them and pathetic signal. I can't mount an outdoor antenna. Any good ideas how to get a signal I can use before I take up drinking?

I have an Ascent 32 inch TV,every now and then I get a black square pop-up on the screen,it doesn't take up the whole screen. I press the display button on the remote and it goes away.

I have a 32" Toshiba tube television. The picture doesn't come on when you turn on the television but if you tap the side of it it comes on. What is causing this and what needs to be replaced? Is it worth fixing?
