One good practice I've learned is to breathe through a straw. The sucking motion you do is similar to that of breathing through your diaphragm.

EDIT: Sorry, if you do it right then it works. If you want an easier way to do it, then try bending over til your hands touch the floor (but your legs are still straight) and then breathe. If you feel your lower back region, you'll notice that is expanding and you are actually breathing through your diaphragm.

    • Counter productive. A "sucking motion" is initiated in the mouth, not the lungs, and does not engage the diaphragm at all.

    • This is actually a pretty good method... the only thing is don't think of it as a sucking motion as much as a breathing in through the straw.
