Where did the term "the 411" originate?

    When you dial 411, you are sent to your local information. An operator will help you to find a number or a person or a location anywhere in that particular region. It's really neat.

    "The 411" parallels information. When someone asks for the 411 on something, they're usually asking for information on it.
