I think if you didn't, you are not taking advantage of a common business practice that is totally legal, and it is business. They can only say no, or it may be yes. If yes, it was a positive experience, whereas if no, at least you tried to put your money back in your pocket instead of a business man who is there in business specifically for making money. That is what business is for.
