Question

Help answer this question below.

Can lack of sleep during puberty hinder your growth (to the point where you don't reach your full height potential)? I've just been wondering that because I lacked sleep during puberty and I think I am not at my fullest height potential.

No, sleep deprivation does not hinder your growth. Growth is controlled entirely by hormones, none of which are affected by lack of sleep. If you're in your late teens to early twenties and haven't grown much more, chances are likely you've reached your full height.

    • But I've heard that certain growth hormones are secreted while you are sleep (especially around 12-2 in the morning), so I thought the lack of sleep might have affected the secretion of those hormones. Anyways, thanks for your answer! Your help was really appreciated.
