You're reading Has anyone heard of cough syncope? I can't find any treatments.
Comments
My husband, but yes, he coughs and then passes out. He has been diagnosed, but we are told there are not any treatments for this. It's very frustrating.

does he have a chronic respiratory condition that causes him to cough a lot?
by Anon on April 7th, 2007
Google "Tussive syncope" and there may be some information to help you
by Anon on April 7th, 2007
"Tussive syncope is a rare condition that often responds to treatment of the underlying cause of coughing. Therefore, the workup and diagnosis of the cause is essential. However, at times, the cough is refractory to conventional treatment. The use of nebulized lidocaine in such instances may be an important adjunctive therapy-from" pubmed.gov

He does cough ALOT, but all the doctors do is take Xrays and say, "Can't see anything. Nothing is wrong."
by Grammy Robin on April 7th, 2007
Just a suggestion, but you may want to find another doctor. People don't cough for no reason

Thanks...I am looking for a new doctor at this time. All they keep doing is giving him more drugs, but can't find anything wrong. Hey...I did give you +3, but they are not showing up...sorry.

Not a big deal about the points. When I realized that 12yr olds were ranked experts I stopped caring about the point thing. About doctors, I have known too many people who have been told there was nothing wrong and wound up having very serious problems. My only advice is to keep looking for a doctor who is willing to do a complete work up. If xrays aren't showing anything ask about an MRI, or a bronchoscopy, or an echocardiogram (it may be heart related, a cough is a common side effect). People have the tendency to think that Drs are Gods and take their word as gospel, but they are wrong a lot. You need to be your best advocate and go with your gut feeling. If HE thinks something is wrong, it pobably is

my husband had been diagnose with cough syncope,he has had it for over 30 yrs, gradually getting worse. he coughs upwards of 5 times an hour, sometimes passes out sometimes not. He has been to every specialist out there, they have run every test out there. Other than the cough he is healthy, wait he is diabetic. but he's only been diabetic for about 10 yrs. Yes,he has had an MRI of his chest,EKG,bronchoscopy, lungs checked, veins checked, heart checked. Does ANYONE have any idea for treatments, or other health personal to see??
