Thank you! I agree with your answer

I delivered pizza for a few months. Without tips I would have spent more money on gasoline than I got from my paycheck. You are completely wrong not to tip, it's rude not to.
by 2old2dieyoung on April 25th, 2009
didn't your employer pay the gas?
As I said, cultural differences. Here in Denmark we only give symbolic tips to waiters in fancy restaurants
by GreenFreak on April 25th, 2009
No, they don't pay for the gas here in the US, and drivers are insulted when they don't recieve a tip. I'm surprised to hear that it's so different there. Sorry for my reaction, I guess sometimes I forget how many people on AB are in other countries.

well, I think most pizza deliveries and similar business have a company owned car which the delivery people use.
I know for certain that in the more fancy jobs, the employer pays the gas. When my dad was a physiotherapist at the local municipality, he visited elderly people in their homes and didn't have to pay for the gas
by GreenFreak on April 25th, 2009
Wow, it must be really different there.... we had to provide our own cars, too!

it's the cruel face of socialism ;)

It is very different there. I help manage a pizza place now and without tips 98% of drivers would quit. As it is, we had to add a delivery fee so we could increase the amount of mileage we pay (we do help pay for gas) or it would have cost our drivers too much to deliver.

Well I hope you don't order from the same place every time. I'd hate to think of what they do to your pizza before they deliver it.

We don't tip simple delivery guys in Denmark

In Peru, Argentina, Australia and Japan you do... I thought it was global. I know other places in Europe tip.
The thought of someone providing you a service and are paid minimally by their employer merits some kind of gratuity paid by the recipient of the service.
Seems pretty universal to me.
by SavageCatfish85 on August 31st, 2011
They're not paid minimally here. That's the difference. And I'm sure other countries in Europe do (countries, not places), but we don't. It's not just different states, they're different countries with different language and culture -.-
