Question

Help answer this question below.

I have a papillon dog & want to teach him to beg. He likes doing tricks but I can't get him to go on his back legs (unless he smells chicken, then he walks round the kitchen like a polecat) What is the best way to teach him this trick?

    Hi.
1st off your dog is super cute (i asume the pap in ur pic is him??) !
I too have a male papillon, he is so fantasctic & completely brilliant.. it's almost creepy.
In fact the breed is quite fantastic, the papillon is the only small breed on the top ten most intelligent dogs' list (^ _ ^). the poodle is on there also but it is not originally a small breed, the papillon has always been a small breed & it has a very well documented royal history. (lol, as u can see I am a big fan. its very easy to be!)
ANYWAY. I taught my dog to stand on his hind legs by enticing him with his fav treats, and once he was up I offered my had for him to rest his front paws in by placing the treat in my palm, at the same time I would clearly say the word UP (every time he was up and retrieving the treat). after just 5 or 6 times he knew the command and now he automatically stands when he hears the command UP and even does a little jumping sort of dance on his hind legs. sometimes i do reward him but not usually, he will do the "trick" in anticipation of a reward (a loving excitable cuddle & pat is enough praise)which is what motivates him (and every dog) to perform it everytime.
    I hope this helps!
    =)
