    I know I'm setting myself up for down-rating but I just can't let this go...

    I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals and I also think that the way they go about culling these seals is awfully cruel, but...

    Do any of you out there know just how many fish 338,200 seals eat in a year? These seals will be eating the fish that are feeding a good portion of the planet. The entire economy of Newfoundland is based on the fish that these seals would eat over the coming year. Not to mention that when I patrolled those waters back in the eighties, I would routinely see huge fishing ships from Norway, Russia (then the USSR), Japan, Spain and Portugal fishing those waters. Since then it has only gotten worse with more nations joining the circus.

    If Canada were to give up it's barbaric "annual war on seals" within three years the seal population would be starving anyway from depletion of their food stocks, along with a fairly large segment of humanity.

    Hey, I realize this is not an ideal situation. I also realize that it is due to humanity's meddling in nature's balance that has got us into this pickle in the first place. But like it or not, we are now part of the life-cycle of these seals, and without our "war" the overpopulation of seals would be disastrous.

    Hope this helps.

    (But, as I said earlier... I'm not holding my breath.)

    • To all those that blame the seals for depleting the fish in the ocean, let me just ask if seal populations are any where near the 6.7 billion humans that are the major depleter of the fish in the ocean. This blaming on the seals are either said by extremely uneducated people or those having an interest in the fishing industry wanting to mislead others away from the actual fact to the depletion of fish. These people has no shame because their business is build upon bloodshed and they will fight to have the right to continue to kill. These people, according to a few major religions will end up in eternal hell. Don't think that death is the end because if human laws do not judge you, karma definitely will. Faster than thoughts, faster than the speed of light, there is no escape from karma. No one ever has!
