You're reading I bought a lovebird awhile back and her wings were clipped. My fiance and I decided not to keep her wings clipped (we think it's cruel) but it's been over half a year and her feathers haven't grown back at all! Why is this? Is she ill?

I used to raise lovebirds and that's partially why I'm concerned... The woman who owned her previously cut her wings in a very jagged manner, leaving some of the feathers completely uncut with others nearly cut to the top of the feather. Both sides are in this condition. She's a sweet little bird and loves to be out, but I want her to be able to get away from my two kitties who have a bit of an evil streak.
I'm afraid the woman may have cut her wings to a bleeding point, but I have no way to take her to an avian vet right now. I'm afraid her flight may be gone forever. She mostly hops around now. =(

The only thing I know to do but it's pretty radical and I've only done it when one or two feathers are the problem, is to pull the ones that are bad out to force a molt. But if she's missing many, that wouldn't work and doesn't solve the problem of why no molting. Even if they were blood feathers cut, they should still be molting :-( Sounds like something an avian vet should look into.
