no, changing the car to your name would have to do with a title. To get tags legaly you need to regisdter the car, buy tags and have any state inspection done

You're reading Is going to the DMV to register a car in your name the same as registering the car? I just bought a car in CA from a private seller and the registration is good until September 2009. Will I have to re-register the car when I put it in my name?
