As an openly gay male, I do not support the Day of Silence at all. I personally do not think it makes any sense at all...Gay people, especially those in the closet, are forced to be silent...so we'll all be silent too to see what it feels like? Good in theory, but the only people who participate are the people who ARE gay or are already sympathetic. And there's not much you can to do to force the people who are oppressive to be silent.

Instead, we need a Day of Speaking Up, where schools talk about the complicated issues of sexuality, have an open forum and make students feel like any form of sexuality is okay and validated. The more discussion the better - the more silence the worse for everyone.
