Question

Help answer this question below.

This book, "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer, looks vaguely interesting but is incredibly popular with teenage girls. Has anyone here read it? and if you have, will the writing style and storytelling appeal to adults, or is it a teenybopper story gone goth?

My daughter read the books last summer when her Young Women leader recommended them (We are Mormon). I agreed to see the movie with her although I find vampires to be laughable. I enjoyed Anne Rice as a teen, but that was so long ago. After seeing the movie, my interest was piqued and I agreed to read the books. Twilight was torture for me as it was so slow and the writing style was geared toward younger readers. I obligingly finished it and went on to New Moon. I blasted through that book in two days and found myself caring about these characters and dying to know what happened next. I am almost done with Breaking Dawn now and ready to join the fansite, LOL!

    • Same kind of thing happened to me - my 11 year old niece became obsessed, and I read it to kind of make sure it was all kosher. As a fan of the horror genre, I find THESE vampires to be laughable, but I did get really into it for a while. Now, the whole thing is utterly annoying, and I think if I see Robert Pattinson's oily head One. More. Time. I'm going to scream.

    • I couldn't believe how hideous Edward was in the movie. Oh well. To each his own. Perhaps if I was a hormonal teen, he might appeal to me.

    • Ah, when I was a hormonal teenager, I oogled Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn in Lord of the Rings. *purrs*

    • For me it was Sebastian Bach of Skid Row. I also really had a thing for Jerry O'Connell. I was a high school freshman in 1991.
