There are many ways to teach someone how to do the serve. As far as stance/position goes, position yourself such that your left foot is in front, right foot behind you. The left foot should be pointed and angled towards the post of the net on the side you are serving to [for instance, if you are serving on the "ad" or left side, your left foot should be pointed to the post furthest away from you.] The right foot should be positioned behind you, nearly parallel to the baseline. So together, with your body at the center, you and your feet should almost form a V-type shape.

As far as hitting motion goes, there are generally two ways you can hit the serve. The way I was taught includes a full-motion where you begin with the racquet relaxed in your hand, at knee level. Then using a arc-like motion you bring it up and behind your back, as if you were scratching your back with the racquet, before you fully extend your arm and make contact with the ball. Ideally you want to perform the ball toss and racquet behind you simultaneously. Contact with the ball should be made when (1) the ball is in its highest point in the toss and (2) with the racquet face parallel to the net.

The other way to perform the motion is to skip the arc motion and start your racquet at the back, before you begin the ball toss.
