Previous answer is not true. When salt water freezes the salt is excluded. Melted sea ice is essentially fresh water.

    • The previous answer IS true if you suggest that sea ice is fresh water. When they melt, they will dilute the waters proportionally, decreasing salinity.

Also, global warming is still just a theory.

    • Not according to what I learned in my geology classes hellaphunt. Tjtx41 is correct. As sea water freezes, the salt is left behind in the liquid. The ice itself is nearly pure water. I do agree with you on global warming though.

    • Where are you two disagreeing here? One of you says that when the sea ice melts, it dilutes and decreases salinity. The other is saying that when ice freezes, salt is left behind in the liquid. Both of these things are based on each other so where is the dispute?

    • I'm saying: melting ice = decreased salinity.

    • And I agree. What I don't understand is what you are all disagreeing on. Alatea said that melting ice has caused the water to be less salty. Then tjtx41 said that melted sea ice is essentially fresh water. Then you, Hellaphunt, said that when the ice melts, it will dilute the water, decreasing salinity. Then Glenn said that the ice is fresh water.
      .
All of those things are the same so what is the disagreement? Am I reading this wrong?

    • I guess there are just some misunderstandings...
