Do leeches live in Oregon?

    Yes. Or rather, they live in Oregon waters. Although many people think of leeches as warm water pests, there are some 650 different species of leeches and some are adapted for colder climates.

    There are marine leeches in the coastal waters as well as fresh water leeches in lakes and streams. However, I live in Oregon and have never encountered a leech, despite regularly visiting the ocean and various lakes and rivers.

    • I have found leeches on my skin from swimming in cache lake on the santiam pass, tributaries of the klamath river in california and even private ponds in the willamette valley.
