    • Interesting, who knows the most about the Bible, then, since to you, people other than Christians know about it.

grl, maybe the OT, but I know not all Jews are taught about what Christians believe with the NT.

    • I haven't done an official global survey, but if you'll notice, my answer specifically references people I know. In my circle of acquaintance, the religious people know less about it than some of the atheists. Quite a few in both camps don't care, but it seems that of those who are interested in religion at all, the atheists are interested in what the book actually says, whereas the theists are not; they just go along with the generally accepted misconceptions and assumptions. Some took their parents' word for it, and others the church's, but they haven't looked at the actual text and read what's *between* the parts everyone likes to talk about... nor have they examined even the well-known bits in much depth. I only have one theist friend who knows even half of what I know about the bible, and she's firmly on the side of "the book is historical fiction."

    • True, i work for a jewish man and he always tells me that i need to learn hebrew because of all the translations done from the "origional" could have changed the wording over time. I based my answers on the fact that they have seen the bible in the same language as it was written... I dont think anyone could ever really know as much about the bible as we would like... i went to christian school for 8 years, and i still have a lot to learn.

    • I have known atheists that know a lot about the Bible, so good for them for studying. I, and my Christian friends tend to study our Bibles, actually read the words in there, so it's not all that common for my circle of friends to not know about the Bible. However, I think I've encountered some Christians who just don't care, because they are 50 years or older, and they go, "Oh, I never realized that it said. . ."
