It might affect whether you get a visa of a particular type: some types of visas have an wealth test -- they're looking for poor people who are trying to get into America to find a job, but applying for some other type of visa. That's not allowed -- if you're coming here to work, you need to apply for a work visa. I don't know of any specific rules about Afghanistan. Have you checked the visa types and requirements on the State Department web site?
