If a fly ball barely hits the glove of an outfielder who is running to catch it, and then falls to the ground, is it considered an error?

    In a situation like you are describing, usually there will not be an error given. The standard for error vs. hit is an average fielder making normal effort, so if a fielder is running all out and the ball glances off his glove, that sounds like a fielder making extraordinary effort. However, it's possible he's making a subpar effort and should have had it, so without really seeing an actual play, I can only say "probably."
