What can cause flank kidney pain besides kidney stones?

It could be allot of things causing the pain. To diagnose you would try and pinpoint the origin of the pain and then image the area to try and see any abnormality. Any infection or abnormal growth...cancer, could cause pain in that same general area. For instance, an appendicitis could cause pain. That pain would be lower and to the right side of the abdomen.
