Some spotting may occur during pregnancy, but bleeding as heavy as a period is not normal. The reason women menstruate is to shed the uterine lining. This uterine lining is what the egg attaches to during pregnancy, and thus must remain in the uterus. Any bleeding during pregnancy should be reported to a doctor as soon as possible.
