Genealogy software is a lot more competitive now than years ago. Not only with features/functions - but with ofter sofware plug-in compatablity.
Used to be that reporting abilities were the main difference - or ability to "attach" image files (for census/record scans, vintage photos, etc) - or ability to create a family history file - etc. Sourcing abilities and degree of customizing is another big category where they've varied.
More and more though, more than one can "chack the box" for funcitonality we want.
There are user groups - and even genealogy cruises where the software tech support folks (and seminars) are on hand. Amazing world!
