this is what no child left behind is doing to the US. No child left behind is BS. Some ppl are meant to pump gas and flip burgers, there is nothing wrong with doing this. everyone is not going to cure cancer. we should teach who wants it and encourage anyone, but it is up to the person to learn ot not. no matter how much you cram it down their throats

You're reading Have schools in your area been told to dumb down their curriculum? It seems at my kids school, they are being taught less of the subjects that are important and more about things that aren't. Is this all part of the legacy of 'no child left behind'?

I had to ask this Q for two reasons concerning my 8th grade daughter. 1) She couldn't tell me this past weekend how many quarts were in a gallon and said that most of the kids in her class wouldn't know the answer either and 2) That her Language Arts teacher told the class that Marvin the Martian was 'gay' because of the way he walked and that he was a lone adult male without a wife or girlfriend. What exactly that has to do with Language Arts I don't know, but apparently the teacher thought it was important. Also, the first part(quarts in a gallon) both my wife and I had learned by sixth grade.
