Too many outside caricular activities taking more importance than studying; sports and bf/gf take the top notches. Parents are also a big factor in that many times parents do not monitor and push their children to exceed; too often parents belittle children who have a hard time or pit one child against another. Lack of study and preparation are the reasons.

Recreation is important as is relationships, but they must not become more important than study. Parents should push and encourage their children to do the best they can.

Case in point: I personally know of a brother and sister where as often is the girl was doing very well in school but the boy wasn't. Rather than belittleing the boy asking why he wasn't as smart as his sister, hid mother worked with him long and hard to keep his grades up and improve. He didn't graduate top in his class but he made good grades and went on to university and graduated. Today, although I have had no contact with the boy for many years he is doing very well in his work. No, not my children but the nephew of my ex.
