It is recommended that plastic surgery not be performed until the person has stopped growing. And since there is no absolutly fool-proof scientific way to determine whether growing has stopped completely, the best estimate is in the early 20's. Traditionally, females usually reach their full growth potential while still in their teens but note that it is usually, which means ocasionally some growth can occur later. Even in the event of a severe disfigurement in a child through accident or other unfortunate mishap, the final result of the rebuilding is not expected to be realized until early adulthood, infact, some surgery may be postponed until it is determined that their growth potential is reached. With young women, hormones can affect growth in certain areas, and if they are too quick to jump the gun & get one of the more popular cosmetic procedures (lip enhancement, breast augmentation, lyposuction), they may find the results less than desirable once their body takes the shape that it was intended to grow into since birth. Certain areas may be too big, others may be too small...& thus more surgery may be desired to fix a disproportionate body. For both young men & young women, it is best to wait until their early 20's...at the earliest.
