It didn't help me. I was only hit in mild ways--slaps and spanks with an open hand--but all that taught me was that if you're big enough to be violent to a person you can/should be, and when I was big enough I slapped my mum a few times, and my little brother once, and I also threw my little brother around... I regret all of it.
