How do you unspoil an 8 month old child that if you put him down cries until you pick him up again?

he might have Seperation Anxiety. My son had it when he was a baby. i could not go anywhere he would cry until i got back or until he fell asleep. he did that until about two years of age. he is turning Five years old today! and is just fine with me leaving his side:)Good Luck
