    • To complete the thought: the person with the most hits without a double was Rafael Belliard, 1988, with 61 hits in 286 AB. He had four triples and no home runs. The person with the most hits without a triple is Magglio Ordonez, 2007, with 216. The person with the most hits without a HR is Willie Keeler, 1897, 239 hits, 19 triples; for the lively-ball era, it's Johnny Pesky, 1947, with 207 hits.

The person with the most hits without an extra-base hit was a pitcher, Lynn "Line Drive" Nelson, 1938, 31 hits. (He was so named because he gave up a lot of line drives.) The person with the most hits without a run scored was Smoky Burgess, 1966, 21 hits in 67 AB, plus 5 doubles and 15 RBI.

I've got access to Baseball-Reference's Play Index tool; I can do this all night.
