XM is a small device similar to a regular radio. The main benefits of XM over FM are that its stations are all commercial free and since its satellite radio, you can go all over the country with it and get the same stations and not have them fade out. There are over 120 stations, ranging from music to news and sports to comedy and children's programming. Many of the music stations are very specific (Broadway tunes, unsigned rock artists, disco...). As far as a price, it depends on what model you get and where you get it. And, yes, there is a subscription fee. It's $9.99 per month. You can find out all the prices and more at xmradio.com/get_xm. That's the pricing page of their site. It also shows you the variety of different XM units you can get. I hope I've helped.
