Is the word "faggot" considered a racial epithet?

    No it is not. However it is highly offensive to most homosexual males. Homosexuality is not a race. It is a lifestyle and any word that is considered offensive to those who could be categorized by it could be considered an epithet, though not a racial one. Certainly one who uses this term when referring to gay males, would commonly be looked at in a similar light as a bigot who uses racial epithets in general conversation, it has been my experience that use of the term "faggot" is still far more socially accepted than common racial epithets, but the situation is steadily improving.
