First off, it's not only those who believe, but those who obey the Gospel, who will go to heaven. Sometimes people use the cliche "I believe" as simply another way of saying "I acknowledge". But the apostles of Jesus Christ required more than just verbal acknowledgment; they demanded a response from those they preached the Gospel to (see Acts 2:38).

But in that light, what happened (or happens) to those who have never heard of Him? The safest answer can only be a Bible answer: "If this Gospel be hid, it is hid to them who are lost." (II Corinthians 4:3)

This is a good question. Perhaps a few other questions might go right along with this one:

Do we really know what goes on in the hearts of the billions of people? Do we really know whether in the night at seasons in their lives God doesn't stir their spirit, discomfit their soul and attempt to woo them into seeking more than they have and know?

From all of God's creation, everything we can see demonstrates the invisible things of God and reveals His power and divinity, to the point they are clearly seen and understood, so that everyone is without excuse. (Romans 1:20)

My suggestion to this question is that no one will face God in judgment and be able to deny that there were times in their lives when He tried to motivated them into following His stirring of their conscience.

    • Wat if they feel it, but don't realise it to be God bacuase the concept of god has never been presented to them- if they've never been given oppurtunity to read the Bible or other scripture for example (e.g. tribes in the Amazon)?

    • Every man is given the ability to recognize that there's more to creation than he can see. Every man is given a conscience. Every man's heart knows right from wrong. Even cannibals can see that what they do is evil if they hear the inner voice.N

    • Ok, so if this is true, then those who respond to this amorphous prodding by God by embracing the spirituality of another religion (which they are likely to do if they have never heard of Christianity) will end up in the Christian heaven? That will be disconcerting, especially if they are expecting to be greeted by eager virgins.
