Question

Help answer this question below.

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses get so hung up on DETAILS in the Bible. For instance whether in John 1:1 saying the Word was "God" or "a god?" and again whether Jesus died in a cross or stake? He died, that's the only thing that matters.

As Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Bible is THE only word of God, they take it literally (except for Revelation as that was written "in signs" - Rev 1:1, New World Translation). Regarding John 1:1 - the term "god" is often used as a title (Satan referred to the "god of this system of things"). "God" refers to Jehovah God. They also believe that many of the current Christian beliefs (cross) were actually based on pagan beliefs. They do all possible not to align themselves with those beliefs.
