Help answer this question below.

I heard an astonishing statistic yesterday. Eight out of ten Americans have a favorable opinion of Barack Obama and want him to succeed. So what do you think is going on with those two out of ten who don't?

    There are dueling philosophies involved. Look under Reagan-Bush-Bush we have seen the national debt grow about $9 trillion dollars. We've had Iran-Contra, 9/11, major recession, 3 wars, stagnant wages, seen the virtual disappearance of savings on the whole (Americans are spending what they earn and then some), our education system fall behind, etc.
    The Clinton era saw economic growth, a rise in median wages, decreases in crime, no wars, a domestic terrorist attack, an impeachment, a balanced budget, and a budget surplus.
    Obama represents a return to the economic policies of the Clinton era, which sharply contrasted with the GOP's vision of reality. People who are opposed to Obama are, I suspect, disturbed by the reality that their economic policies have been proven to be completely wrong. Deregulation, starve the beast, live and let die policies haven't worked. And it's more than that.
    If Obama gets things back on track, what are they going to argue? They need, and some want, him to fail. Then they can argue that taxes were the cause, no matter what Oliver Wendell Holmes said.

    • Hi NC Jake. Thank you for your thoughtful, detailed answer m'dear. Here's what I don't get...Obama fails, the country fails, we all are in far worse shape. What kind of mind holds on to an ideology that wants/prays/hopes for self-destruction? It makes no sense, it is illogical and if 20% of our people think like that, it is an absurdity of great proportion. Happy Tuesday to you! :)
