Babylonia is the ancient empire that existed in Mesopotamia, more specifically, in the Euphrates River valley. It flourished under Hammurabi and Nebuchadnezzar II but declined after 562 BC and ended up falling to the Persians in 539. Babylonia conquered Israel in the 6th century BC and exiled the Jews to Babylon (where Daniel became a counselor to the king). Therefore, Babylon, on the other hand, was the ancient city of SW Asia, on the Euphrates River, famed for its magnificence and culture. It was the capital of Babylonia and later of the Chaldean empire.
