Hi my son is a sufferer of hyperacusis, he also finds many sounds difficult to deal with for him soft sounds tend to have a greater problem for him such as brushing, people colouring, brushing teeth, ssss sounds, clicking keyboards, buttering toast there are so many.

He finds music with earphones tend to help with sounds that are bad whilst out perhaps you could try this on the bus.

There is a help forum on hypercusis if you type into google they may be able to help

    • Wow - thanks for answering. I posted this question ages ago and no one replied. For me, the ssssss sounds seem to be the worst. I do have headphones now and I find it helps but I wish there was an operation I could hav that would just cure it once and for all. I will have a look at the forum. Thanks and I hope your son finds peace. x

    • Bless you I really feel for you having seen how bad it is for my son, your type sounds like soft sounds sensitivity syndrome type that in and there is another group especially for the soft sounds sufferers of this condition. I too wish an operation would make it easier x
