    "Yes" is conventional wisdom, and although it is a little more complicated.

    Stretching helps produce nitric oxide, which is what actually helps prevent injuries. Since stretching itself is not the real benefit, new research has shown that "no" can be the case as well: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2006-04/aps-isp040206.php

    You should consult a physician for better advice on your own situation. Exercise programs and indiviudal physiques vary greatly, making your question a little to vague to answer exactly.
