Question

Help answer this question below.

Why should a person have friends? I can't really remember ever having any friends, and, other than alleviating the occasional bout of self-pitying loneliness, I'm not quite sure what the point would be. What do other people get out of friendships?

I guess the two most basic answers are entertainment & companionship. I can value alone time, but prefer the company of others most of the time, especially dining out, doing anything out really hehe, and who to talk to about my thoughts and share my experiences with, friends of course! Need my friends, couldn't and wouldn't want to do without. Plus its great to be able to be there for them too when they need a little help :)

    • I see the entertainment part, but isn't companionship close enough to be self-referential? I mean, if you have friends for companionship, what's the purpose of companionship? Do people just get lonely soon after not being with friends? Perhaps my lonely response is out of sync compared with most people?

    • No I don't get lonely after saying goodbye to friends. I am usually really happy and looking forward to our next adventure.
However parting from a lover could be more difficult. Regular friends though should not make you feel sad to say bye for now. True friends are always there for you even if they are not always by your side.
