If I recieved my period, it is light but still a dark red, could that mean I am pregnant?

    No. The blood in your period is from the endometrium--the rich, bloody tissue lining your uterus and waiting to support a fertilized egg. If such an egg attaches itself to the lining, the blood in that tissue will stay and start the process of nourishing it. Otherwise, you shed the blood and start building up a new endometrium for your next menstrual cycle. The fact that you have begun to bleed means that there was no fertilized egg, or that by some chance there was but your body expelled the endometrium anyway (if the egg didn't attach to the lining, for example), in which case the egg couldn't survive.

    On a side note, cats and rabbits (among other things) have what's called an estrual cycle instead of a menstrual cycle. Among the differences between them is the fact that the blood in the endometrium is reabsorbed into the body instead of expelled. Doesn't that sound more convenient? ; )
