I would take her to the doctor. She could have some kind of irritaion in her throat or her teeth may be bothering her. Look for a legitamate reason for the behavior. If, as one thought, it is for attention? Then deal with that appropriately by making the bad behavior un-profitable. However, with children you don't take chances. She is most likely cutting teeth and is seeking stimulation of the gums to relieve her discomfort. Give her zwieback cookies or a teething apparatus, rub her gums with oral jel, and a baby asprin if feverish. Always better to be safe than sorry. Make sure she isn't running more than a few degrees as it could always be a sore throat. Her pediatrician should be able to ease your fears so don't hesitate to ask him/her. Relax, they grow out of childhood, just wait till they become adults. Talk about worry, yikes!
