Yes. The JW's with whom I've come into contact with over the years believe it is wrong to lie. I don't know about the organisation leaders but the individuals I'm speaking of do NOT lie nor do they teach their children to lie.

    • Really, Jerry, how many of the "Top Leaders" do you personally know? I sure don't want to associate with any false prophets, thanks for telling us who they are. Any other churches you want to save us from?

    • It's not rude to tell the truth. My husband ia a JW and I've read his material and they say it is okay to lie because some do not need to know the truth. They also couch their children to lie in a court of law when there is a divorce between a JW and a non JW in a custody case.

    • My husband was brought up in the faith and they were told it is OK to lie if the person doesn't deserve to know the truth.

In my book a lie is a lie.

    • Our organization does not encourage us to lie. The reason many anti-JW's bring this up is because there once was an article published in the past that talked about how one could be evasive when encountering enemies, for instance, during persecution. The alternative is NOT to tell a lie. The alternative is to not speak at all. There article gave an ample supply of Bible examples.

I have the full article that actually starts off by saying, “God’s Word commands: “Speak truth each of you with his neighbor.” (Ephesians 4:25)

This command, however, does not mean that we should tell everyone who asks us all he wants to know. We must tell the truth to one who is entitled to know, but if one is not so entitled we may be evasive. But we may not tell a falsehood. There is a big difference.

Later in the article it explains that a Christian is not required to divulge information to “our enemies.” The purpose of the article was to prepare Christians that under times of persecution or if the lives of our brothers and sisters were on the line could be “cautious as serpents.”

If in time of war like what was recently experienced in Rwanda where many Witnesses hide Witnesses from the other tribe seeking to kill them we could be evasive or remain silent if asked where the whereabouts were of our Christian brothers. I wonder if "Anonymous" would do the same?

This article actually went on to say, “Should circumstances require a Christian to take the witness stand and swear to tell the truth, then, if he speaks at all, he must utter the truth. When faced with the alternative of speaking and betraying his brothers or not speaking and being held in contempt of court, the mature Christian will put the welfare of his brothers ahead of his own, remembering Jesus’ words: “No one has greater love than this, that someone should surrender his [life] in behalf of his friends.”—Matt. 10:16; John 15:13.”

The context of the article has nothing to do with everyday dealings with others or when people asked questions about our faith. So we can clearly see it is unnecessary to impute bad motives towards Jehovah’s Witnesses.
