Would someone from the U.K. (I'm from the U.S) kindly explain the definition of a "wanker"? Is it profanity?

    im not from the uk, but the word is uesd a lot in NZ, it is a degratory term for a .....well an idiot, some one who is a tosser ( lol, now thats another english term) a bore, a know it all, some one who people dont really like..........
