Is the term "deadbeat dads" a sexist term when women also default on child support payments? Why single out only one gender?

You're reading If a guy get a girl pregnant, but is not financially able to support the child, and requests that the girl have an abortion, but she choses not to, should he still be sued for child support?
Comments
it is his child...but is not financially able to take care of it, that does not mean he does not love his girl and child, but he does not have the $$$ to support a child

He may get sued. But if he has no money, well, you cant get blood from a stone...

sarita: You may not be able to get blood from a stone, but you can send that stone to jail until he realizes that he needs to get A J-O-B and take care of his responsibility.

How can he get a "J-O-B" in jail? Why not have a court order to send him working for McDonald's? :)

psych: it's called work-release. You are transported by the correctional officers to and from work, and whatever paycheck you make goes towards your fines/court costs (plus they charge you rent for your jail cell, meals, and medical expenses while you're in jail) child support, and any garnishments you might have (unpaid bills, etc).

Ahhh thanks for the clarification :)

Not a problem =) I used to wonder the same thing until I had the unfortunate experience of *being* in jail, where I learned exactly WHY it is that they lock up deadbeat dads/moms.

Work release is not available everywhere. Jail is a silly option in my opinion. You are criminalizing someone that made a regrettably large mistake ("you" as in we the community, not you personally). But they will never be able to make good on that mistake behind bars.
