My spayed female Chihuahua spends a lot of time licking her private parts, which excites her so much she starts to 'hunch' the carpet and even our other dog. Is this normal?

    Have you looked to see if she is in heat? Another possible answer could be an infection, tumor, flea infestation, and many other causes. Humping other family dogs is not an unusual behavior in itself. Without more information it would be difficult to pin down the reason she is doing this. I would not get too excited about it. I used to have a male that gratified himself frequently. Once the kids started paying too much attention to his activity we decided to place him in a more mature family with older individuals. A trip to the vet may be in order just to make sure there is no organic reason for this behavior. She may not be getting the attention she needs. Do you work or leave her alone for long periods? This sense of abandonment could cause emotional problems that would present themselves in acting out. Chihuahuas are an emotional breed.
