A true story. The daughter of a friend of mine (I'll call her Jane) met a man (Robby) much younger than she is (the age difference being some twenty years) over the internet. He is a con man. He has a lengthy criminal record. Although he can be a sweet talker who knows all the right words to say, it is merely a ploy to be able to steal her money in many unique ways. She is a grandmother who is over weight and her looks vacated long ago. The young man is still somewhat handsome and youthful looking. She is flattered that "someone like him" could love her. It isn't love and she has allowed herself to be duped over and over again because she doesn't want to be alone. The internet is filled with such individuals. The Robbies prey on the lonely Janes.
Jane was recently diagnosed with an illness that qualified her for SSD. It was basically a mental illness which Robbie took advantage of. In the year that they have been together she has lost the ability to think for herself. Mistaking Robbie's constant, suffocating attentions for love, she has lost thousands of dollars of her SSD payments, three sets of household furnishings in the many apatments they have lost from Robbie's paranoia which demands that he move literally across the country, a new car, and her two teenage daughters. He once told her that he could "OFF" her and never feel remorse over it. We hope that she will wake up one day before he kills her. Before Robbie, Jane nearly left here to go to Texas to meet a man she had "Met" over the net. She was "IN LOVE" with a sweet talking man. Before she was to leave she was contacted by the strange man's family who had gotten wind of the liason and told her that she must not come, she had no idea what she was getting herself into. Come to find out, he was just out of prison for which he had murdered an ex girlfriend over a matter of mistaken idenity. Jane may wake up someday, but not before she has lost everything. Her wonderful Robbie has already run up a 900 number to over $3000 talking to sex lines while he was being supported by Jane. She still has that debt to pay off. Robbie will keep his fat, aging girlfriend for as long as the money lasts. She will spend vast amounts of money bailing him out of jail (3x's already) This is not an unusual story. It happens all the time, just the details differ. The internet is a dangerous place. My advice is for you to stay away from internet dating sites until you are more informed with relationships. You have plenty of time to find the right person. And, he won't even be on the net when you find him. Just wait about four years. It not to long to wait for the love of your life.
