Are you allowed to take two steps without dribbling before attempting a layup?

    Moving to shoot the ball has no relavince on whether someone has traveled or not. Trying to put it simply if the player picks up the ball with one foot on the floor and the other in the air the player can then place the other foot on the ground which is their "non-pivot" foot. He or she can then pick up the "pivot" foot. He/she than has three options. 1) shoot 2) pass 3)put the "pivot" foot back down and have traveling called. If you see this scenario come true on the court it normally looks like the player has taken two steps when in actuallity they have not. Just because it looks bad does not mean it's a violation.
