    It still is in some accounts, depends on what part of the game your talking about. It is illegal to dunk the basketball during pregame warmups of high schools sports, penalized with a technical foul. This also reigns true during intermissions. Hanging on the rim after dunking for any reason other than protecting yourself or another player (i.e. you will fall on someone) is also a technical foul.

    And just in case you did not see Kelly's comment. It used be offensive goal tending in NCAA from 1967 until 1976.
