Is it normal to lose your self-esteem after years of being subjected to someone disparaging you whenever you experience a moment of insecurity?

    Sure and the opposite is true also. Gather a entourage of people who will support what you are into and see if you feel more confident about it in a year. So whether the verbal abuse is true or not, it will not help the self esteem and will take some of it away. A simple explanation is that you will experience noise pollution and ask yourself why don,t I move by body away from this noise, and when you don,t. Self esteem suffers greater losses with task that are fairly easy. You can protect yourself somewhat (but not fully) by painting a complicated picture to where no one could get out of the situation. So it becomes a normal issue. As long as you pick the right friends who support you view, that will ease thing up but not enough for the long haul.
