What is the meaning behind the phrase crimson and clover in the song "Crimson and Clover"?

    Here my interpretation: It is about a guy smoking weed and having sex with a girl he met.

    Crimson and Clover = marijuana (clover colored with red hairs)

    "What a beautiful feeling
    Crimson and clover, over and over" = smoking more weed and having more sex.

    I know it is not the REAL meaning, but I still think it's the best one.
