Why do women say they don't like the jerks but continue to go out with them?

Of course most women won't admit they like guys who are jerks, because on the surface it doesn't make much sense. But maybe guys who are jerks seem more assertive and self-assured. A guy who's too nice can seem like "the friend," so maybe that's why women don't always go for the nice guys. But a guy should always be nice when you really get to know him.
